Kris Delmhorst |
Kris Delmhorst's stunning new album, Shotgun Singer is due out April 22nd, 2008 on Signature Sounds. With a back catalog that includes two darkly rollicking roots records produced by Morphine's Billy Conway, and the 2006 release Strange Conversation, a vibrant collection of Americana songs inspired by the work of famous poets ("a remarkable album...as seamless and brave as it is brilliantly creative" - Irish Times), Kris Delmhorst has parlayed a decade of successful cross-country and trans-Atlantic touring into one of the most distinct voices in American music. With Shotgun Singer, Delmhorst has trained that voice on a series of gracefully open lyrics and figures that transcend genre, ranging into the borderlands between indie-rock and folk; that nameless territory inhabited by such hard- to-classify artists as Laura Veirs, Feist, Iron & Wine, and Juana Molina.

Kris Delmhorst's third CD Songs for a Hurricane is the latest stride in a career she's built in classic Do-It-Yourself fashion, touring the country incessantly and releasing her music independently. And clearly she's doing something right, having sold 25,000 copies of her first two discs, "Appetite" and "Five Stories", on the strength of strong performances and word-of-mouth alone. She has toured the USA and Europe with Dar Williams, Chris Smither, Catie Curtis, and Mary Gauthier. Along the way she's garnered six Boston Music Award nominations, first place in the 2001 Telluride Troubadour Songwriter Competition, and inclusion in a stack of DJ top ten lists from coast to coast.

 | Strange Conversation
Catalog Number: SIG 1299
Strange Conversation is inspired by poetry from around the world and through the centuries. With poems set verbatim to music or serving merely as the jumping-off point for her own literate, lyrical take; Delmhorst weaves together a vital, celebratory meditation on art and its ability to speak across time and distance.

 | Horses Swimming
Horses Swimming is a stripped-down collection of six original acoustic songs. Aside from a duet with Jeffrey Foucault (the botanically-themed "Early Everlasting"), all the music is performed by KD (and mostly self-recorded as well). No rockers here; these are ballads and love songs, dreamy, sometimes wistful, and sweet. Includes a piano version of "Anybody's Heaven" as well as "Made of Time," an outtake from the Shotgun Singer sessions.

 | Shotgun Singer
Company: Signature Sounds Catalog Number: SIG 2012
With Shotgun Singer, Kris Delmhorst has trained her voice on a series of gracefully open lyrics and figures that transcend genre, ranging into the borderlands between indie-rock and folk, that nameless territory inhabited by such hard-to-classify artists as Juana Molina, Feist, Iron & Wine, and Laura Veirs. Adventurous, elegant, lucid, and haunting, the record is the work of a musician at full stride who has found a musical language equal to her vision.
